"Stalin's Soviet Monastery" has the subtitle 'A New Interpretation of Russian Politics." It questions the significance of ideology in the Soviet Union, and argues that lurking beneath the surface of all the propaganda was a secular version of Orthodox monasticism. That was the real organizing force of the government.
